Science In The Beginning
Available As AYOP (At Your Own Pace) ONLY:
This is NOT running as a live class during the 2025-26 school year. We are running Science in the Ancient World as a live class this year.
If you wish to use this as an AYOP class, there are some resources that were used in the live class last year that we have added to the course page. They are SUPPLEMENTAL resources and you will still need the curriculum. They may not be there for every lesson. They include:
-
Youtube videos
-
Quizizz games
-
Some extra website links
AYOP (At Your Own Pace) Classes do not have a volunteer teacher. Class pages have independent resources students can work through on their own.
AYOP CLASS CONTENT
Classes are not a replacement for the curriculum. You will need the Required Resources listed in the course description. Our course pages include supplemental resources to help you as you take the class. How many resources are available depend on how many VHSG members participate in submitting resources on the Volunteer Build Team. Our courses are a TEAM EFFORT and how much is there for the kids depends on YOU!
Each parent is responsible for overseeing and grading your own child's homework.
Student Ages
This class is suitable for Grades K-6.
Course Description
† Contains distinctly Christian content
This is a supplemental class to add some fun discussion, videos, and games to the course you do at home.
Since this is mostly a hands on course with experiments, activities, and discussion, there will not be computer graded activities for this course. Parents are expected to oversee the actual course content and activities with their own children.
This course page is basically a summary and checklist of the lessons and does not contain homework. You may use the checklist to help you track your work.
Please refer to your book for the activities you will do at home as a family.
This course contains the following supplemental materials to add to the curriculum:
-
Youtube videos (such as science experiments) on the lesson topics
-
Quizizz review games for some lessons
VHSG AFFILIATE LINKS WILL GIVE 8% BACK TO VHSG
Please consider purchasing through Christianbook using the links below. This helps make our classes possible.
Required Materials
Science in the Beginning and Helps and Hints by Dr. Jay Wile
Suggested Materials
There are lab kits available for purchase if you don't want to gather your own materials separately.
For Science in the Beginning, you must own the Student Text and "Helps and Hints" to take the VHSG Course.
The labs are an essential part of the curriculum. If you wish to buy the supplies as a kit, we have an affiliate link that will benefit VHSG.
You may wish to add some of the other resources, such as notebooks. They are not required for the VHSG portion of the class, but may be something you will want to do as a family. For lab credit, the lab kits will save time for you so you are not having to gather individual materials for the experiments as you go.
